This is the second season of the PSOI National Rankings, which was created and is managed by the Asian Surf Co, with 60 events across Indonesia providing the basis for the rankings of 15 Divisions of Competition, with only Indonesian nationals included in the final rankings. Indonesians competing for other countries’ surf federations and international surfers are not eligible to be part of the final rankings.

Open Women’s Number 1, Jasmine Studer, was very proud of her accomplishment, saying “It’s a great feeling, I’m really happy with this achievement! The whole year I was doing contests almost every week. It was a bit hard, especially not spending a lot of time at home, but at the end of the day all the results made up for it. Last year I got 1st in the junior women rankings and 2nd in the open women’s. So being number 1 in the Open Women’s surfer was one of my biggest goals for 2024 and I was thrilled to achieve it! Also want to say a huge thanks to everyone who supported me through it, without my sponsors, family, and my close friends, I couldn’t have done it without them.”
For the Open Men’s, Number 1 Made Pajar Ariyana had an amazing year and felt very proud of his results, saying “It feels really good to see my name on the top spot. I think I did really well last year, as I focused 100% on every competition that I did, and hopefully this year I can be just as consistent and stay at the top.”

*Only Indonesian nationals are included in the final rankings. Indonesians competing for other countries’ surf federations and international surfers are not eligible to be part of the final rankings at the end of the year. This ranking is intended to represent only Indonesian nationals competing for their country.
The PSOI National Rankings were created in 2023 to bring structure and cohesion to Indonesia’s surfing community. The primary goals were to unify competitive events across the country, provide a transparent system to track surfers’ progress, and elevate the professional standards of surfing in Indonesia. So through the visibility of a centralized ranking system, surfers and national organizations would both benefit.
・Unify Surfing Events: Establish a single system for ranking competitors in separate divisions
・Empower Surfers: Help surfers monitor their progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and therefore improve their competitiveness
・Support the Industry: Create a tool that benefits brands, sponsors, coaches, and clubs by offering clear metrics for tracking talent development.
・Selection of National Team : Used as a merit-based aid in the selection of national surf team members
Now that the PSOI National Rankings is in its second year, it has certainly proved its value:
1. It tracked and displayed both surfers’ final standings and each of their results from sanctioned competitions in a clear and well organized, accessible forum
2. Accepted by the National Surf Team to aid in selecting participants for international championship events
3. Provided data to surf community stakeholders including coaches, clubs, and sponsors
4. Improved event organization through better seeding and entry management
The PSOI National Rankings will continue to be refined, to evolve and always improve, focusing on the overall goal of providing useful tools that support and progress the sport of surfing in Indonesia, and PSOI’s Secretary General Tipi Jabrik is very proud of this valuable program, saying, “This rankings system is very helpful for Indonesian surfing development. The ASC has been in the forefront of developing surfing, from before the PSOI even existed, so now working together it will produce even more progress. From grommets up to senior surfers, from grassroots events like boardriders up to WSL events, a rankings system is one of the most fundamental keys to success in development. I don’t think many countries in the world have this system, so we are proud that we do.”
